COMMUNICATION AS TOOL TO DISCOURAGE PRE-MARITAL SEX IN UNIPORT

 

ABSTRACT

This work discusses communication as tool to discourage pre-marital sex in uniport. A hundred and twenty questionnaires were distributed among students from selected departments in uniport. Interviews and surveys were also conducted.

 

Primary and secondary data will be used in the analysis. Tables and percentages will also be used as the instrument of analysis

 

It will be observed therefore that communication have a strong and significant positive impact as tool to discourage pre-marital sex in uniport.

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1   BACKGROUND TO THE STUDY

University campuses offer a unique environment for students either to pursue a relationship that is driven by pre-marital sexual intercourse.

Premarital sex is sexual activity practiced by people who are unmarried. Historically, premarital sex was considered a moral issue which was taboo in many cultures, but since about the 1960s, it has become more widely accepted, especially in Western countries.

 

1.2   STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

This research discusses communication as tool to discourage pre-marital sex in uniport. There may have been few or not in-depth researches in the past on the the use of effective communication as a tool to discourage pre-marital sex. This work gives a better elucidation and comprehensive analysis on the various effective media with which to expunge to problem of pre-marital sex in universities, using Uniport as a case study

.

1.3   OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

The following are the objectives of this study:

1.    To examine communication as tool to discourage pre-marital sex in uniport

2.     To identify the factors leading pre-marital sex among undergraduates.

3.    To examine the impact of pre-marital sex on the academic performance and psycho-social development of university students

1.    What are the effective tools or media of communication to discourage pre-marital sex in uniport

2.    What are the factors leading pre-marital sex among undergraduates.

3.    What is the impact of pre-marital sex on the academic performance and psycho-social development of university students

 

1.6   SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The following are the significance of this study:

 

    The outcome of this study will educate the general public and education administrators on effect on the negative effects premarital sex, and this will form a guide to managing the issues of premarital sex among the students.

    This research will also serve as a resource base to other scholars and researchers interested in carrying out further research in this field subsequently, if applied will go to an extent to provide new explanations to the topic.

Interest in this study was as a result of poor performance of these MFIs as indicated in the AMFIU Annual report of 2006. The study therefore sought to determine if this could be attributed to their ownership structures and therefore governance levels.   A cross sectional survey design was used to undertake this study using a sample of 65 MFIs from which responses from 44 MFIs were received; giving a response rate of 67.7%.    Findings of the study reveal that ownership structures and corporate governance are significant predictors of MFI performance accounting for 42.4%
